We love to craft and we love a bargain, so we really love projects made with dollar store finds. Here’s a collection of some of our favorite dollar store decorating projects!
Neon Lights Candle Holders
The 80s are back on the scene in neon pink, orange, yellow, and green. These eye-poppers liven up any décor, but remember that with fluorescents a little goes a long way. We made these neon candleholders by using masking tape to outline stripes on glass pillar candleholders. Then we painted each stripe a different shocking shade using––nail polish! It’s not only inexpensive, but it also works well on glass. And the colors are ultra-trendy!
Flirty Flower Vases
Take store-bought accessories from blah to ooh-la-la! Big box stores have aisles of home accents just begging to be jazzed up. Try wrapping simple vases with layers of ribbon. Then embellish each one with a rhinestone brooch and a silk flower.
Dress ‘Er Up
Gorgeous knobs can transform an ordinary credenza into something special. We found handcrafted flower knobs perfect for our project, but they were way too spendy. Time to make our own! We started by taking silk flowers apart layer by layer. We removed the dresser’s original knobs, slid the post through the flower centers, then screwed the handles back on. For just a few bucks you can put roses on your chifferobe, daffodils on your desk, or violets on your vanity!
Modern Art
Art doesn’t have to come from a SoHo gallery to be ultra-hip. You can decorate your walls with anything you like. Spark romance by framing love letters or your favorite poems. To really heat things up, make your own Andy Warhol with a box of Red Hots. Frame enlarged, color copies in frames from the dollar store. A wall of Red Hots is sure to light your fire.
I really enjoyed your post!! Thank you?
You are so welcome!! J&K
I have seen other videos on UTube about etching glass…I wonder if you leave the cream on for 15 or 30 minutes if the etch will be more pronounced?
I also wonder if you could paint the inside of the bottle or jar so that the etching shows up from afar…and how would you do that ? If you have a video on it please let me know.
I love the wineglasses you did using stickers.
Where did you buy those stickers? They are just a one time use I am assuming unlike a stencil that you could use over and over.
Thanks, Deanna
Hi Deanna,
The etch cream works in a certain amount of time. After that it doesn’t do much more to the glass, but it could erode the stickers and mess up the design. So we don’t recommend leaving it on for too long. On the other hand, you could do a little experiment and see! We haven’t tried painting the inside of the etched glasses. If you try it, let us know how it comes out!
The stickers we used on the wine glass in this project came from Hobby Lobby. http://runningwithsisters.com/how-to-etch-wine-glasses/
