What do you make the style maven who has everything? A sophisticated set of cocktail coasters that propose a toast each time someone raises their glass! Using clear resin instead of grout shows off the gorgeous blue and copper glass tiles. Add a cheeky twist and use metal letters to spell out toasts like Cheers and Bottoms Up. Skaal!
YOU WILL NEED
4 salsa jar lids, 3¼” diameter, ¾” deep
1 can bronze spray paint
Liquid Nails clear adhesive
Vitreous glass mini mosaic tiles, 3/8″ size: 1/6 lb. bag indigo tiles (approximately 100 tiles)
Vitreous glass mini mosaic tiles, 3/8″ size: 1/6 lb. bag copper tiles (approximately 100 tiles)
Making Memories metal eyelet alphabet
Envirotex Lite Pour-On Finish (4 oz kit, includes resin and hardener)
2 flat-sided paper cups (8 oz size)
2 popsicle sticks
12 adhesive-backed felt pads (½” size)
DIRECTIONS
Step One
Spray paint the lids bronze on all sides. When dry, stick three felt pads to the bottom of each jar lid.
Step Two
Spell out a toast like CHEERS in the bottom of one lid. Arrange about 35 indigo tiles around the word. Using the Liquid Nails, glue each letter and tile in place. Repeat to create four different coasters, two in indigo and two in copper. We used the words CHEERS, BOTTOMS UP, SALUD, and SKAAL.
Step Three
Pour the entire contents of the Envirotex resin and hardener into one paper cup and mix vigorously for one minute with a popsicle stick (refer to the directions included in the package for more details). Then pour the mix into the other cup and stir with a fresh popsicle stick.
Step Four
Pour the mixture over each coaster working quickly to spread the resin evenly over the tiles. Tip each lid lightly to evenly distribute the resin to the edge. Let dry in a dust-free area on a level surface for at least 48 hours.
Tiny Bubbles: Five minutes after pouring the resin, exhale gently over the surface to release any bubbles.
What a beautiful idea! I would like to try to do it! Kisses from Spain!
Where can I find the little metal letters?
Hi Desiree,
We used “Making Memories” brand “metal eyelet alphabet”. They are no longer available at Making Memories, but might be available on eBay. There are some cute typewriter letter charms at Oriental Trading Company that might work. http://tinyurl.com/ms7htjc But we are not sure how tall they are. Let us know what you find!

can u use photographs?
Hi Rufus. You can use a photo if you laminate it first. Otherwise the resin will cause the picture to look wet and transparent. Hope that helps!
I love this!!!!
Thanks Martine! They are really fun to make.
