Turn a classic floral hankie into a sweet hankie sachet scented with lavender and embellished with a pretty pearl brooch.
What You’ll Need:
Scented Herbs & Essences
Dried lavender, 3/4 cup
Flaxseed, 3/4 cup
Lavender essential oil
Vintage floral handkerchief, 12″ x 12″ square Bowl 1. Pour the dried lavender and flaxseed into a bowl. Add 10 drops of lavender fragrance oil to the mixture and stir. 2. Lay the hankie face down on your work surface. Spoon the sachet filling onto the center of the hankie. Gather the corners and edges of the hankie tightly together to create a ball. Secure at the top of the ball with the rubber band. 3. Wrap the ribbon around the hankie a few times to conceal the rubber band and finish with a bow. Tie two more bows around the hankie and trim the ends at an angle. 4. Pin the brooch onto the center of the bows.

I loved the project made with vintage hankie. I have quite a few of them and keep wondering about what I can do with them. I will look forward to more ideas. Thank you , nichol e
Do you have to have flax seed?
Great question Elaine. No you can skip the flaxseed if you like. We add it to give the sachet a little weight. Plus the flaxseed can hold the scent. But you can skip it!

Love this idea! Wondering if essential oils stain the handkerchief?
Thanks and great question Cathie! We stirred the essential oil drops into the dried lavender to soak it up and didn’t have any problem with staining. You could let the filling dry a little while too before putting onto the handkerchief.

Love the idea. My grandmother used handkerchiefs so I have plenty. I wanted to give each of her grandchildren one in a nice way and your idea is perfect
What a lovely idea! They’ll love having that keepsake.

Great idea! I do t know why I never collected vintage hankies . I may try with the thinner linen napkins I’ve collected. They aren’t doing me any good sittin in an old suitcase unused or unseen! Thanks again for inspiring me!
Hi Cheryl,
That sounds like a perfect use for the napkins. So glad you are feeling inspired!
